Fishing Report – Striper Fishing Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
Thursday, December 11th, 2008
I just returned from me annual trip to Virginia to see if the stripers are still biting at the bridge tunnel. The first afternoon was perfect weather and the bay was calm. We started fishing around 1:00 that afternoon and I could tell very soon after that something was not right.
Apparently the weather in Virginia had gotten cold much earlier this year and so everything WAS different. The bait pods that are usually around the bridge this time of year were not there. And so the birds were not working the bait like they normally would be.
We worked the pilings for hours and at the end of the day we had a total of 9 fish in the boat. We kept our limit of 6 but normal numbers should have been around 60 to 80 fish for a half day trip.
All was not lost though and the numbers did improve over the next few days…
I will write more tomorrow.
Thanks for reading!

Please practice catch and release whenever possible and remember the large fish don’t taste any better than smaller ones. Take a picture and let the big ones go back to catch again later.
